Why should I purchase a Lock and Roll?

The Lock and Roll system is superior to other products because you do not have to store, look for, untangle, or put on straps. It only takes 5 seconds to put your boat on your car, and the Lock and Roll system locks the boat onto the car.

How many boats can I put on my car?

The maximum amount of boats that you can lock is one per unit. Most people will only use two lock and rolls per car. After you have your boat locked on, you can strap the rest of the boats on to your car for the shuttle back. The nice thing about the system, is that once you lock two boats on, you have a "second roof". This is because your boats are "on", and dont move, making a second layer easily done.

What are snaparounds, and how many do I need?

Snaparounds are small glass injected plastic pieces that attach your Lock and Roll to your vehicles rack. The Lock and Roll system is designed to use 4 snaparounds. All snaparounds are sold as a set of four.
Some people may already have these because of previous purchases from Yakima. If you have Yakima bars, they should work for you. If you have thule bars, you would need to have purchased the "vertical" snaparounds, usually used for ski racks. (All Snaparounds are sold without markup, and are only sold for your convenience.)

What if I dont have a Yakima or Thule Rack System

Snaparounds are available for many factory racks, and can be purchased through your local REI or ski shop. You will need to purchase "vertical Mighty mounts or snaparounds" Usually used for ski equipment. Snaparounds or mighty mounts are manufactured by Yakima.

Whats the difference between Drivers side and Passenger side locks?

The actual locks are on different sides for the drivers side and the passengers side. If you installed a drivers side lock on the passenger side, you would have to reach over the bar in order to unlock it. When considering a purchase, get the one that you have space for on the top of your Yakima/Thule/Factory rack.
(I.E. some people may have bicycle racks on their drivers side and would therefore like a passenger side rack)

How long will it take to ship my product after I order?

After payment is recieved, your rack will be shipped usually within 5-7 business days.

Will the Lock and Roll damage my boat?

NO. The Lock and Roll is designed to protect your boat. All parts that touch the boat are plastic coated with heavy guage plastic. If your plastic parts ever wear out, new parts can be easily ordered. After over 3 years of using the Lock And Roll, I have NEVER had any damage, and have NEVER lost a boat!

How long will the Lock and Roll last?

To be honest we are not sure, we have never had one wear out. The Lock and Roll isdesigned to last a lifetime. If you wear one out, let us know.

Will the Lock and Roll work on my factory rack?

Yes, although we wont guarantee that all boats will. Due to everchanging designs, some boats sit verry low. (below the bar) Some factory racks are barely off the roof of the car. I believe that most playboats will work with factory racks, I have had some problems with creek boats and factory racks.

How difficult is it to install the Lock and Roll on to my rack?

After doing it probably more than anyone, I still do it wrong. You dont have to be a rocket scientist, but you will need to use the included instructions. Step by step photo instructions, and trouble shooting links are included via this site. Video instructions are also readily available!.

Does the Lock and Roll work with touring kayaks?

Yes, and No.

The Lock and Roll works with most plastic touring kayaks. I recommend bow and stern lines if you will be using it for the longer boats. If you are interested in using it for fiberglass boats, the answer is... its not recomended. The reason for this is due to the fact that many fiberglass boats tend to have weak cockpits. The Lock and Roll attaches to the cockpit, and therefore may not be suitable for fiberglass boats.

What cockpit legnths will work?

The Lock and Roll should work with all whitewater cockpits ranging from 18 to 41 inches. Many recreational kayaks, and touring boats will not work due to a close wall located directly behind the seat, and/or extremely long cockpits.

Answer: The Origional Lock and roll will not work with new Jackson Kayak boats, and therefore had to be changed.

Question: Why the price difference?

Question: Do the Jackson Kayak versions fit other kayaks?

Answer: Yes! The Jackson Kayak version fits all the kayaks the origional did, plus Jackson Kayak Boats.
