Kayak consists of: Shell and Paddles (follow size and weight restrictions listed below).
A Kayak is considered 2 pieces of Excess baggage.
Sailboard / Windsurfer consists of:
Board - Boom - Sail - Mast. These items are generally packed in a separate bag for each component. Each bag is capable of holding several boards.. Masts .. Sails.. ETC.
United will accept a maximum of 2 items per bag for a set of 4 component bags.
- If the set of 4 bags exceeds the weight allowance of 110 lbs/ 50kg an excess charge for international travel will apply.
- If the set exceeds the maximum length of 109 in/227 cm an excess charge for international travel will apply
- Limited release tag required. (they break it you buy it)
- Apply same weight.. Length and piece considerations to sail kites/parasailes and other odd size recreational use devices not listed in this or other profiles. Cannot accommodate on: B737 / A320 / A319 Aircraft if over 9 ft in length.
Minimum check in time: 30 minutes additional

- Within U.S. / Canada: 1st set: 160.00 USD / 250.00 CAD Additional sets: 160.00 USD / 250.00 CAD
Any oversize/overweight set: 320.00 USD / 500.00 CAD
- All other Travel: 1st set: 2 Pieces of excess Additional sets: 3 Pieces of excess Any Osize and / or Oweight set: Charge Osize and Oweight rate
- Weight Concept: For First and all additional sets:
Within Europe: $100.00 USD Outside of Europe :200.00 USD
To/From Japan: May be included in free allowance at normal excess rates

Beat the system:
1. To check a kayak is the same price as a windsurfer, except with a windsurfer you get 4 bags plus your normal
2. Just make it look good. 2. Due to the confusing wording that United uses, you could possibly use it to your advantage. (ex. "For First and all additional sets: Within Europe: $100.00 USD") Does that mean that you only pay $100.00 to travel to Europe? Make your own conclusion and hold them to it. They don't know where you received this information, reservations?
3. Worst case scenario, you can at least check a paddle bag in addition to your 2 bags.
