Bliss Tragedy

Just another typical winter day at Bliss. Cold, wet, bouncy fun. The Bliss wave is half way between Boise and Twin Falls Idaho. For a more acureate description... well get out your map. This was the problem when I started to go home yesterday. I was driving along, and saw smoke. I figured someone burning trash, but as I drove by, I noticed the roof of a trailer on fire. I stopped the car, grabbed my camera and cell phone, hopped the locked gate, and ran down to inspect. The roof of this nice 5th wheel was on fire, caused by the furnace.

This was what I saw when I arrived. I started to yell, thinking that someone may be inside, even though there were no cars around. I dialed 911 on the cell phone, and went looking for a hose, or something that I could work on it with. I found a propane tank, and got it away. 911 picks up, " There is a trailer on fire here." she asks where I am. "Well... I am half way to bliss wave." she paused... "where?" "On the south side of the river." I said. "Listen, I need an address. Is there a mailbox? A house number?" There was nothing. I explained that I was half way between the power plant, and the bridge on the south side of the Snake river. She cleary was not a kayaker. 5 minutes later she finally dispatches fire department.

This was the scene.

Notice the grass on fire.

About now I ran up to my car, as the fire was racing up the hill toward it. The fire department arrived about 25 minutes after the blaze began.

But not soon enough.

My condolences go out to the poor guy who lost his home.
