La Jolla Kayak

Although I normally would scoff at flatwater boaters, and you wouldnt catch me dead in a sit on top, sometimes you have to give a little. I recently visited La Jolla California. This area is famous for their sea caves, and my mother really wanted to go see them.

La Jolla Caves

So after a two hour drive in heavy traffic, (everything is a long drive in heavy traffic in southern California) we arrived a La Jolla Kayak. We rented one single kayak, and a double for my wife and I. The Water was clear, and beautiful, and there were 6 foot tiger sharks swimming underneith our boats. I know that I saw about 20 or more on our short paddle to the caves. Once we arrived, there were only a few caves that you could safely paddle into.

The water was fairly calm, but just rough enough to get my wife sick. The waves would break onto the rocky shores, which made the risk of going into the small caves not worth it. Being as my wife was sick I decided to drop her off on shore while I paddled around.

Once we landed on the rocks, I tried to urge her to move quickly, but to no avail. As she slowly got out of the boat, a wave hit the kayak, knocking me and the boat onto her. Needless to say she moved a bit quicker after that.

After that I paddled around a bit, as my wife sunbathed on the rocky beach. After a while I went back in to get her, and accidentally caught the biggest wave of the day. I tried to carve off it but the foam pile was way over my head, and that huge 2 person sit on top was'nt carving anywhere. Finally I just streightened it out, and surfed the thing right onto the rocks. (sounds easy, but it was sketchy.)

Anyways, it was a good time, and I recommend it, especially if you are in the area.
