Ottawa

General Information

This is my favorite river. There is something for everyone on the Ottawa. Warm water, amazing play, great fishing, waterfalls, and an all around awesome place to get away.

The Ottawa is best described as a series of lakes connected by rapids. It is the only river that I have been on that I have gotten lost. The river splits into three main channels, and a bunch of dead ends. The great thing about the Ottawa is that you can paddle at babyface, corner wave, left side, right side, and a bunch of other great playspots all located at one rapid, then head downstream to babyface and guarberator for a while, then paddle back up to where you started, no shuttle needed. if you get bored, you can completely change the type of boating that you are doing, and do some creek style boating on dragons tongue rapid, run the river, or stop boating all together and go bungee jumping, jet boating, play volleyball, basketball, sit in the hot tub... and the list goes on.

All of this is available in one easy trip to Canada. No worries about the drinking water, the locals, or if you can speak the language. Did I mention how amazing this place is. The season for the Ottawa is summer through fall, and the playboating is best usually in the late summer/fall.

Beware... The Ottawa is extremely addictive, you may never want to come home. Plan accordingly.

Where to stay...

The best place to stay is at Wilderness Tours. Here you can rent a cabin, or just camp in one of their many campsites. Food is available here with their great resturant. This is also where all the fun takes place. Even if you dont stay here, you will most likely find yourself hanging out there. There are also some locals who will rent cabins on the water, this could be a good option if you are staying with a couple of friends, on a budget, and are willing to cook your own food. If you are interested in this option, you can contact me, and I can give you some more info.

Directions

Fly into Ottawa city and rent a car. Travel west via HWY 417, to just before Cobden, then turn right onto country rd 7 and follow the signs through Forresters Falls to Wilderness Tours Outdoor Resort. The drive will take you about 1.5 hours from Ottawa intl airport to the whitewater.
