Nile Special is a superfast wave that will definately take you for a ride. This bouncy wave requires a fast boat to get on, otherwise it will take you a few rides. Low water is when it is the best, although it is also when it is the most difficult to catch. Higher flows the wave is easier to get on, although it is more trashy. The eddy is easy to catch, and it is a quick paddle back up-river if you miss it. This wave will definately wear you out. When you finally catch it, you cant help but think "I gotta sit here for a second to catch my breath." Nile Special is a 10 min paddle from the Hairy Lemon on the day 2 section. Definately spend a few days here.

Next
we have Malalu. This huge wave is easy to access, easy to surf, and fairly
friendly at the right flows. Malalu tends to be trashy, and a bit intimidating
at low flows when Nile special is going off. It also features a nice eddy,
and a river right shoulder perfect for throwing some huge moves. The currents
here can definately mess with you, and a swim will mean a long rescue, although
not dangerous. (see panorama at top of page) Any move can be done here, pending
that you can do it. I spent a couple days here, all day. Many days this wave
will go completely unsurfed. The thought of this wave unsurfed brought tears
to my eyes.
Yours truly kickin it on Malalu. (photo's by Debs Pinniger)
Other cool stuff to see and do...
The run down to Silverback is rewarding, and is only a short Boda Boda ride back to camp. It will require a big water roll, a solid heart, and a deep breath.
Itanda falls is at the end of the day 1 section. Most people dont run the whole thing, but you can if you dare. Make sure you check it out first. The scout is easy, as it is a park. I tried to get the whole thing on film so that I could do a panorama, but its just too big. Heres a couple shots showing the basics. Even if you dont run the falls, its definately checking out.
Calagala falls is a quite a drive, but worth looking at. I had heard a lot of talk about how scary and evil this falls was, so I just assumed that I would'nt want to run it. When I got there, thats all I wanted to do. Yes its big, yes its scary, but if I have any regrets about the whole trip, it would be that I did not bring my boat with me to the falls.
The put in at NRE is fun. A concrete slide 30 feet long, set a good 10 feet above the river. Also a great place to catch the sunset.
These photo's were taken at the put in for Malalu. The wave is located between the 1st and second island.
To give everyone an idea of the size, this is 3 photos pasted together. There are people doing laundry in the bottom left image.
I could'nt see them either, so here they are.
